Fortunato Farm
About Us
As new homeowners, my husband Barney and I we were eager to start on home renovations. With not much left in the budget after the purchase of the home, we set our sights and small budget towards the back yard. When we bought the property, the backyard was simply an empty plot of land. There were no preexisting garden beds, very few trees and a lot of open space for imagination.
Having moved in Memorial Day Weekend, we were already behind on the garden front. But we built a small garden, went to the garden center for starter plants and planted a modest garden of herbs, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Despite our late start, by the end of the summer had a bit of success. I was hooked. So as the winter months dragged on, we would stare out at our little garden in our big empty yard and decided to set our garden sites bigger for the next year - much bigger. As in 1000 square feet bigger. With the end goal of our little farm project being to produce enough food for the two of us for the year, with extras to give to family and friends, we had lofty goals. Especially considering we have very little experience, even when combined. To tackle such a massive task, we have devised a division of labors. Barney is in charge of infrastructure and soil. I am in charge for seeds, actual gardening, harvest and storage. And so Fortunato Farm began! |
